Maria Montessori

The Founder of Montessori Education
Location:Home > Philosophy

Maria Montessori was, in many ways, ahead of her time. Born in Ancona, Italy in 1870, she became the first female to graduate from medical school in 1896. During her medical career she had opportunities to clinically observe children and how they learned.

The approach used in schools all over the world today is based on Dr. Montessori’s scientific observations and is also supported by current research in child development. Teachers are trained to observe children closely in order to introduce and adapt the program to support each child, rather than work to make him or her fit into a curriculum. The goal of education is viewed as being the development of a compete human being oriented to the environment and, adapted to his or her time, place and culture.

In addition to our classrooms dedicated to the education of young children, we also have an onsite Teacher Training Centre for the three to six year age level.

If you are interested in learning more about Montessori theory and practice, perhaps even in becoming a trained teacher, we enthusiastically encourage you to visit the Centre only a few steps away from our classrooms. There you will find a helpful staff member who will provide you with information about the courses offered. The Montessori community is growing in China and we extend a warm welcome to all new members.
